The Hoshi Ryokan is a hotel in Japan and is the oldest family business in the world. Beginning in 718, it has been owned and operated by the same family ever since, passed down through forty-six generations! It is rare that homes, farms, businesses are passed down. David probably felt shocked and privileged when God promised that someone from his family line would be King forever. God’s promise shows how powerful He is to keep the family of David on the throne forever. Only God could promise this! God also promised to send a Savior who’d rescue people from sin, and Jesus is He who came. Jesus is a descendant of David, the King of all kings.
Activity
Volunteer to serve in a ministry during a summer week, or weeks. Talk with the family about the importance of serving, and of keeping our commitments made to the church.
Memory Verse
Write out Jeremiah 10:6-7a on a scratch paper each day this week. “There is none like You, O Lord; You are great, and Your name is great in might. Who would not fear You, O King of the nations? For this is Your due.”
Prayer
Thank God that He always keeps His promises. Thank God for how He has been faithful to you and your family this year. Ask God to help you discover His plans for your life; parents lead the way helping direct children as they seek God’s will for them.
